Good Friday service starts soon! Our wonderful worship leaders are #rehearsing... . “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God... But he was pierced for OUR transgressions, he was crushed for OUR iniquities; the punishment that brought US peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” #GoodFriday #Healing #Isaiah53
Tonight's Good Friday service starts at 7:00pm. On #GoodFriday, we remember the things that are wrong with our world and with ourselves. We remember that fixing the world around us requires love and sacrifice. Most of all, we remember that God has already provided that sacrifice and love for us. Because of his work, we can be sure that our efforts to #heal the world are not useless. Tonight's service will focus on healing prayer and worship, and we hope you will join us. All are welcome.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.“ John 13:34 This week we celebrated the Last Supper in our small groups by sharing a meal and remembering Jesus’s mandate to “love one another.” As a church, we aim to obey that commandment with regards to everyone who comes through our doors. We hope we have the opportunity to share this love with you this year. #HolyWeek #MaundyThursday #InJesus’Name
"When Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfill the scripture), "I am thirsty"... When Jesus had received the wine, he said, "It is finished." Happy New Year! We have so loved having you journey with us through the last year, and we hope to see even more growth, fellowship, and love in 2019. Now the Work of Christmas Begins by Howard Thurman, read by Taneisha Crawford When the song of the angels is stilled, when the star in the sky is gone, when the kings and princes are home, when the shepherds are back with their flocks, the work of Christmas begins: to find the lost, to heal the broken, to feed the hungry, to release the prisoner, to rebuild the nations, to bring peace among the people, to make music in the heart.
"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Luke 2:10-12 Today, we celebrate Christmas. The story has become so familiar in our culture that it's easy to miss the strangeness and wonder that it contains: a backdrop of civil unrest; the opening incident an unplanned pregnancy; the main players rural laborers and shepherds; the protagonist, a tiny baby. But in the course of today's festivities, we want to take a moment to remember the meaning of Nativity story: that God so loved the world that he relinquished all of his power and entered our lives as a baby, small and helpless, who would ultimately grow to cure the world of all its flaws and be the savior of us all. Cradle by Eugene Peterson, read by Cochise Watkins For us who have only known approximate fathers And mothers manqué, this child is a surprise: A sudden coming true of all we hoped Might happen. Hoarded hopes fed by prophecies, Old sermons and song fragments now cry Coo and gurgle in the cradle, a babbling Proto-language which as soon as it gets A tongue (and we, of course, grow open ears) Will say the big nouns: joy, glory, peace; And live the best verbs: love, forgive, save. Along with the swaddling clothes the words are washed Of every soiling sentiment, scrubbed clean Of all failed promises, then hung in the world’s Backyard dazzling white, billowing gospel.
In our Christmas series 'Making Room,' we've been looking at the response of different characters in the Nativity story to the miracle that happened in their midst. In his poem "The Nativity," C.S. Lewis identifies with the humble animals gathered around the manger and wonders, what character flaws do I have that, if I were truly honest with myself, the birth of Christ would rectify in me? "At Christmas, it is not the gifts that we can give, but rather the gifts we are given, which truly make Christmas a holy day." The Nativity by C.S. Lewis, read by Nathan Salamacha Among the oxen (like an ox I’m slow) I see a glory in the stable grow Which, with the ox’s dullness might at length Give me an ox’s strength. Among the asses (stubborn I as they) I see my Saviour where I looked for hay; So may my beastlike folly learn at least The patience of a beast. Among the sheep (I like a sheep have strayed) I watch the manger where my Lord is laid; Oh that my baa-ing nature would win thence Some woolly innocence!
